Becoming who we are: beloved May 17, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is my third time reading "Life of the Beloved." Every time, I come away encouraged and cheered. In the midst of busyness, needing to be productive, and striving to remain competitive it is refreshing to be told, "You are loved and chosen; it's OK not to be perfect; what you have to offer others will have an impact. So go for it!" Truly good news of which I need to be reminded frequently!
Beloved! April 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a pastor I decided to use this short but powerful book as an entry point for discussing the spiritual life with our church book group during the season of Lent. Everyone enjoyed Nouwen's easily understood writing. He puts things simply and clearly. This allows people the freedom to enter such an important spiritual affirmation/guideline: We are beloved children of God.
More Excellent Nouwen March 22, 2007 If you are a fan of Henri Nouwen, this is one of his best reads. I used it for Lenten reading again this year.
Are you the Beloved of God? March 16, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a good book. Simple, easy to read, to the point. Nouwen wrote this book to non-believers in God, and to one person and his friends in particular. A chapter near the end of the book shares Nouwen's reation to this man's response to the manuscript, which is interesting. Nouwen shares 4 principles, that when appropriated in our lives, can make us all better, more effect people. Evangelicals may not like this book, but they too, would benefit from this read.
All people have an equal value to God November 10, 2006 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
So all people should have an equal value to each other no matter if they are rich or poor. And each of us is loved by God so we should love ourselves as well.
