5 out of 5 stars Excellent   April 25, 2008

Once again, Deepak Chopra sheds much needed light on what Jesus taught, what is written in bible, and what the church has put into place. This audio book is an easy listen complete with instruction and life changing step exercises to help those on the path of transformation!

5 out of 5 stars Insightfuk and inspiring.   April 20, 2008

I've bought four copies for friends and recommended it to anyone I think would be interested. I've read over a dozen books by Dr. Chopra, and I believe this is by far my favorite. It challenges us to examine what it means to live a Christ like life, and presents insights as to how to do so in a way that is current and relevant. If you've ever pondered what allowed Christ to live as the divine master he was, and have desired to live a similar path, this book will shed light where before there were only vague ideas about what it means to live connected to the Divine.

Let me start by saying that I am a devout Deepak Chopra fan and have read just about everything he has authored and I have learned much from this great mind. However, in this book, I think that Deepak was rushed and somewhat annoyed at perhaps the Catholic Church and all the dogma, the recent dictates of the Pope, which are on the verge of hysterically funny, it's true. But, the hysterical rantings of the Pope, an old fart by even the most generous of criticisms, is not enough to merit an entire book.

Any thinking person already intuits that Jesus didn't really walk on water or heal the sick or bring anyone back to life as his apostles have written in the Bible for the purpose of beginning a church. However, Deepak of all people should know better than to criticize someone for their beliefs. I have always said, "If you want to call God Jesus, Mohammed or Buddha, as Deepak likes to call God, then more power to you. At least you're talking to God and asking him for guidance in your life. That's really what Religion is all about. People band together to teach each other how to ask God to come into their lives. The fact that none of our groups of friends or churches have it 100% right, doesn't matter. As long as your talking about GOD as the INFINITE FORCE of LOVE in this universe, it matters not a whit what other names you give to him or her.

God really doesn't care what you call him, in other words, as long as you're calling him once in a while into your life. This I know more than anything else that I know.

Another book that I have found on Amazon that expresses this interest in Religion and the impact it can have on the world, is entitled: "BORN AGAIN, The 2nd Greatest Story Ever Told!" It's thriller. Should be on the TOP of the Best Seller List and perhaps soon it will be.

This book asks the question, what would happen if we found the DNA of Jesus and then CLONED him into this modern world. Well, the answer will amaze you. Give it a read and then write your own review.

4 out of 5 stars Exceptional, although I do take issue with some parts   April 16, 2008

Deepak Chopra brings to this book a Non-Christian way of looking at Christ (and this is NOT to be considered a disparaging comment on my part). As with all his other books, I have found him to be an author and an individual with great wisdom (East meets West? East supplements West?), and I have personally used his insights and wisdom to my lifes' advantage many times.

Now I DO consider myself to be Omnireligious-- I go to many different houses of worship (Christian and non-Christian) and I have personally found much wisdom and inspiration in the underlying Truths of these religions -- Truths which have also enabled me to see a "double wisdom" in many of Jesus' sayings.

BUT as someone who was initially raised as a Christian, I was taken aback by some of Deepak Chopra's views on the Existence, Authority, Wisdom and teachings of Christ - in one instance even saying that Christs' mission on earth was a failure. Now, if Deepak is saying that these are his personal beliefs, then so be them -- but perhaps he is doing this to act as the "Devil's Advocate" to spur US to think more about Christ and His life, His mission and His legacy.

One thing in my favor, perhaps, is the fact that I had previously read the book "Who Wrote the Bible?" by Friedman, which in itself brings to light many questions about authenticity (what Jesus really said, what may have been lost in the translation, etc), alternate biblical passages, and biblical books -- and this prior reading helped me understand more of what I encountered in Deepak's book "The Third Christ".

And since the bulk of Deepak's book IS so inspiring -- and since the way Deepak looks at and takes apart and interprets Christ's messages and teachings IS such a new twist on things and is so much in keeping with Dr Chopra's way of getting to the deep heart of things... I DID enjoy "The Third Christ", ESPECIALLY the last 90 pages or so, starting with the chapter "The Search For Higher Reality", starting with the "Fifteen Steps to God-Consciousness".

Deepaks' views on Negativity and Guilt are also inspiring, as is his interpretation of an alternate meaning of the practice of Meditation.

I always refer back to Deepak's books that I have on my bookshelf -- and even though this present book has to go back to the Library, I plan on buying my own copy, so I can once again pore thru those pages which really appeal to me, and take more of Dr Chopra's Eastern wisdom into my life.

Thank you Deepak Chopra.

5 out of 5 stars far reaching and profound   April 14, 2008

This is a profound revisioning of Jesus, which takes Him beyond the narrow confines of some traditional Christian concepts and treats him as the great mystical teacher he surely was in reality. This is the Jesus of the Gospel of Thomas rather than of the evangelical Christians. Even within the conventional Christan canon, if you look deeply enough, you'll find hints of this profound mystic. I find Deepak's work becoming more and more profound as his career progresses too. I was always slightly dubious about his work - probably simply because he was so famous and had a gleam of the successful celebrity about him - until I saw the Way of the Wizard recommended on Eckhart Tolle's website. Eckhart's recommended reading is a great source of fantastic books, such as De mello's awareness and The Fall by Steve TaylorThe Fall: The Evidence for a Golden Age, 6,000 years of Insanity and the Dawning of a New Era
