| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential video The Bells of St. Mary's works much better for its battle of wills between a parish priest and a head nun than the dopey musical interludes that pepper it, but Bells is still a winning, emotionally satisfying film. This sequel to Going My Way has Father O'Malley (Bing Crosby) taking over the St. Mary's parochial school and finding himself at loggerheads with Sister Benedict (Ingrid Bergman, looking gorgeous even in a habit). There's a wonderful balance to all of this: O'Malley takes a more worldly approach to administration and is wrong just as many times as the nun is when she insists on a more biblical approach. About four subplots suffuse the film, including the story of a young charge from the wrong side of the tracks, and the deteriorating state of St. Mary's in the shadow of a brand-new building (the owner is played by the avuncular Henry Travers). A dear film. --Keith Simanton

Sound edited... false face March 22, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Very surprised to see that the Pledge of Allegiance in the very first seen was sound edited to exclude the phrase "under God"... False rendition, and two-faced presentation. It's difficult to understand how people can think they can trick God.
Just what Mom likes February 23, 2008 Bought this as a Valentine gift for my Mother who is 81 years old. This is just what she likes and was very pleased.
The Bell's of St. Mary DVD February 22, 2008 It's old (real old) but a Christmas Classic. The story is enjoyable to follow and the acting is superb. You would believe that Bing Crosby was a priest in the Catholic Church, but (as with Ingrid Bergman) modern views.
Classic Movie of two personalities learning to work together for a common purpose! February 13, 2008 In this classic movie Ingrid Birgman and Bing Crosby couldn't be more different in their personalities and yet they learn to give and work together for a common cause; training young people to be responsible adults.
Not much would get accomplished if Crosby's personality would reign supreme and yet if Bergman's personality dominated there wouldn't be the compassion that is so need in training children.
When both personalities begin working together for a common goal, harmony results. I believe this movie was more of a learning experience for these two role models than the children themselves.
A must see to appreciate what I'm trying to say!
Bells of St . Mary's - DVD January 27, 2008 I have had the video of Going My Way but I didn't have Bells of St. Mary's. I have always enjoyed this classic with Irgred Bergman and Bing Crosby. It was the sequel to Going My Way. I was thrilled to find that I could get the DVD. For someone who enjoys old classic movies, this is one to get.
