Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
God's unsurpassed majesty and greatness is an aspect of biblical truth that is often lacking in contemporary preaching and teaching, and thus often lacking in the consciousness of modern Christians. In The Majesty of God in the Old Testament, respected scholar Walter Kaiser confronts this lamentable deficiency with verve. He suggests that a key way to recapture this important doctrine in the ministry of the church is through the preaching of the Old Testament--itself an oft-neglected or mishandled discipline.

Kaiser shows how today's preacher might address these deficiencies by walking through an exposition of ten great Old Testament passages that are rife with evidence of God's majesty. He also demonstrates how various types of preparatory studies--word, historical/archaeological, thematic, Bible background, and theological--can be used to help pastors make the Old Testament more relevant to their congregations. In addition, he addresses potential problems peculiar to the preaching of the Old Testament. The reader, whether seminary student, preacher, or teacher, will not only be challenged to incorporate such proclamation into his or her ministry but will also be personally uplifted through these studies that magnify God's greatness.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars God is my King!   September 4, 2008
This book helps understand the nature of our God as it provides the reader with a great survey of the attributes of our Mighty God. It is very important to know the nature of God to feel assured when we call on Him.
Thanks Kaiser. You have taught me a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff   June 4, 2008

This book is a collection of ten messages from the OT related to God's majesty. But more than that, it is a series of helps on how to study and preach these passages. Kaiser does a great job of exegeting the passages, bringing in historical data, and systematizing the information. The messages thoroughly honor God and, as such, make great devotional reading as well.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book on Preaching OT   August 15, 2007
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

This is a great book for preachers, providing a homiletics refresher as veteran bible scholar and preacher Kaiser walks through the study and preaching of 10 Old Testament texts. Beyond simply giving help for these 10 passages, Kaiser models the preaching of the OT with a concentration on the character of God. He is particularly concerned with the need for us to be teaching our people about the greatness of God.
