Product Description
Shocked by the Bible sets the record straight with well-researched, controversial, myth-breaking assertions about what the Bible really does-and doesn't-say. Myths and misconceptions about the Bible's content abound, and churchgoing Christians are often as confused as everyone else. Fed up with this lack of public knowledge, author Joe Kovacs has compiled some of the most crucial information for correcting people's faulty education on what the Bible really says. If readers have ever wondered about God, the Bible, or the meaning of life, and are just not satisfied with the answers they've received-or if they want to learn what the Bible really says on troubling questions-Shocked by the Bible is an essential resource for helping both Christians and non-Christians alike. Kovacs says, "If people actually knew what is in their Bible-the nonstop sex and violence, the hilarious comedy, and the astounding facts their pastors never told them-they'd rush to crack it open and get the surprise of their lives." Among the little-known facts Kovacs explores are: - Jesus said NO ONE has gone to heaven except Himself
- The Bible never says Jesus died on a Friday or rose from the grave Sunday morning
- "Christmas" is not mentioned in the Bible
- "Easter" has vanished from the Bible
- God wanted to kill Moses
- "God the Father" is never mentioned in the Old Testament
- There weren't just two of every kind of animal aboard Noah's Ark
- The worst case of hemorrhoids in history is recorded in the Bible
- Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were not Jews
- Jesus made personal appearances on Earth in the Old Testament
- The Bible tells you not to eat your dog or cat for dinner
- God ordered many of His own people to get divorced
- Elijah did not cheat death by riding a chariot to heaven
- And many more

Finally someone who reads their bible! January 8, 2009 I purchased this book and it is all that it claims to be. There are many things that people believe about Christianity and many of them are just pure Myths. Sadly a large number of the people who believe those myths are Christians themselves - simply because they do not read their bibles and have relied on others to understand it fo them. I would highly recommend this book to anyone Not just those interested in the bible for the first time but those life-long Christians who have not yet cracked the bible open to read what's within it's pages. You might just learn something about God that is the exact opposite of what you've been told or believed all those years. Go ahead......give it a try!
Shocked by the Bible January 6, 2009 Shocked by the Bible is a Bible trivia book with information that would astonish the average church attendee. However, a student of the Bible will be disappointed. The information is commonly available and/or given in the Bible itself.
Worthy of a place in my bookcase December 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Kovacs hits it out of the park with "Shocked By The Bible." It's everything you want in a book. Entertaining, educating, and thought provoking to the point that it sends you back to your Bible for further edification. This book is sure to stir up the minds of Christians young and old, and have you discussing its very content with responses of laughter, disbelief, and of course "shock". Kovacs's smooth writing style, levity, and honesty make this a must read.

A Must (Should) Read for Every Christian! December 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most Christians will not like what Joe Kovacs has to say about Christian traditions that have nothing to do with the Bible.
Why celebrate Christ's birth at the wrong time of year and in the wrong way? Why use the pagan word "Easter" for His resurrection and ignore the actual days of His crucifixion and resurrection? Why focus on "going to heaven" when the focus should be His return and the coming Kingdom?
These, and many other Christian myths, are discussed in an open-minded, non-critical, and sometimes humorous manner.

WOW! December 21, 2008 This book did get my attention, some of the input I already knew and a few statements were new to me. It is quick reading and a good purchase for me in my opinion.
