Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

In this astonishing book, celebrated reporter and New York Times -; bestselling author Jim Marrs painstakingly explores the world's most closely guarded secrets, exposing clandestine cabals and the power they have wielded throughout time. Defiantly rooting out the truth, he unearths starting evidence that the real movers and shakers covertly collude to start and stop wars, manipulate stock markets and interest rates, maintain class distinctions, and even censor the six o'clock news. And they do all this under the mindful auspices of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the CIA, and even the Vatican.

Drawing on historical evidence and his own impeccable research, Mars carefully traces the mysteries that connect these modern-day conspiracies to humankind's prehistory. The eye-opening result is an extraordinary synthesis of historical information -; much of it long hidden from the public-; that sheds light on the people and organizations that rule our lives.

Disturbing, provocative, and utterly compelling, Rule by Secrecy offers a singular worldview that may explain who we are, where we came from, and where we are going.

3 out of 5 stars Not what was expected from Marrs   January 7, 2009
As is always with Jim Marrs' books you never get his own opinion. In this book you'll read about opinions giving by other people and their statements might seem out of context when you actually read their books. Marrs nonetheless does and extraordinary job at assembling massive data and then connects it all together very neatly. But it should be also noted that some things are out of context and that Marrs should have paid attention to them. Such as when Marrs tries to connect the Annunaki to Planet X he should have noted that the Sumerians themselves didn't attribute the Annunaki to planet X thus taking other people's material which results in out of context summaries.

3 out of 5 stars A Far Reaching Conspiracy Survey, Well Researched   October 7, 2008
This is a conspiracy theory book that puts forth convincing and coherent evidence for the existence of a power structure in the United States and the World that operates out of the light of the mainstream media to influence world events and status quo. Don't take everything that Marrs says as truth, he draws a lot of his own conclusions and is skillful at convincing the unwary reader of his anti-establishment beliefs. This book follows the influence of secret organizations throughout history and Marrs has a linear story about their connection. By the end of the book his argument is almost entirely hypothetical and hard to believe at best. His warning in the forward is very apt, however, 'If you are happy with your current world view and understanding of world events, do not read this book.' I have a major concern with current affairs and decided to take a look. I am glad I did, but be careful.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting and thought-provoking   October 6, 2008
This book was interesting and entertaining. Jim Marrs offers a detailed look at many theories behind secret societies and how these societies may or may not have manipulated history. He even goes deep into the past and touches upon Zecheriah Sitchin's theories of aliens tampering with DNA to create the first humans in ancient Sumer. Lots of info on Freemasons, Illuminati, European Bankers.

4 out of 5 stars Bogged down by documentation...   September 22, 2008
"Jim Marrs," I love your work and enjoy your interviews on Coast to Coast, BUT! I got so bogged down by all the names (and more names) and historical data in Ruled by Secrecy that I lost sight of what the book was telling me. Too, I wanted something to "happen," some intent to keep me interested in the book, but all I got was more documentation. I lay the book down on page 50 to use as reference material.

5 out of 5 stars All I can say is,"WOW"   August 20, 2008

I have never written a review on a book before. But this book has me feeling so enlightened I felt I needed to share. I've never had a book make me think and rethink everything I've ever learned about history. THis book is a MUST READ for everyone, not just in America, but the entire world. Marrs sites authors, controversial and not, leaving his personal opinion on the backburner. This book pulls together our present view of history and religion, states it as we know it, then proves through historical texts, that it's all wrong. I've gone to read some of his sited authors to try and prove to myself that everything Marrs presents is false (although some of it made so much sense to me) but have found that I can't disprove any of it. I've always been someone who found gaps in the history books and religious texts, I've always thought that there was something "missed" ,if you will, in all of my studies of history and religion (and I've done my share of research on these subjects). Marrs completely put it all into perspective for me and now I know I'm not so alone in the things I've always felt. Knowledge is power and I definitely feel enlightened. WOW.
