Product Description For most college football players, practice is the toughest part of their day. For the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy, the twenty-one hours a day they spend off the field are just as demanding as the three that they spend on the field. While other college football programs increasingly resemble training programs for aspiring professional athletes, the Naval Academy is a proving ground for aspiring leaders in our country’s Navy and Marine Corps. For the players and fans of the Naval Academy football team, the 2007 season was a testament to courage, resilience, and a sheer determination to never give up. Presented through the reflections of the team chaplain, Into the Fire recalls the amazing unfolding of the historic 2007 season. In addition to the heart-stopping victories and the heart-breaking losses, you’ll meet the remarkable young men who week after week took on teams who were bigger, faster and stronger than they were, but who never flinched in the face of a good fight. And as you hear the words that the chaplain shared with the team at the pre-game meal every week, you’ll understand why, at Navy, football is about a lot more than just football.

Not just for football fans! December 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I never really knew that much about the Naval Academy until we moved to Annapolis. And even though I attended several of Navy's home games in 2007, I never really appreciated how special the team was until I read this book. The messages from week to week are truly inspirational, and I found myself excited to get to the end of each chapter to read the game wrap-up and remember how they came out. This is an easy book to read, and it's lots of fun, too. And I'll never think of Navy football--or the other service academies--the same way again. Great book!!
A "Must" for any Navy football fan...and others, too! November 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On the day I purchased it, I read this book from cover to cover, almost without leaving my chair. Chaplain Owens provides a wonderfully humble insight into his own role as the Navy football team's assigned chaplain during the 2007 season while recounting each game and sharing his awe of the special young men with whom he interacted. This is a must for the library any Navy football fan....and probably for their opponents as well!
