Product Description His Favorite Wife is the heart-stopping, inspirational narrative of a courageous fifteen year-old girl who becomes the sixth wife in a polygamous marriage. Cascading with well-developed characters, this true story will capture your soul and imagination as the author reveals how a group of kind-hearted, sincere people are led to embrace this controversial lifestyle in their pursuit of the highest degree of glory. Laced with surprising brush-strokes of humor, this heart-rending saga will take its readers on a journey that outsiders whisper of and shudder about. It answers the question that a polygamist's wife is asked countless times: How can you tolerate sharing your husband? In North America today there are over thirty thousand polygamists. Many of them lead secret lives in their attempt to hide from society and U.S. laws. Their women are taught that obedience, unquestioning acceptance of polygamy, and giving birth to huge families of children to follow in their parent's footsteps, will assure them a celestial crown. Few search out truth for themselves, but trustingly follow their prophet. Susan's book deals with this head-in-the-sand ignorance. She too, was one of these women.

A page turner January 6, 2009 A very interesting look at the life of one member of a polygamist cult.
Born in Utah and grew up in Colonia LeBarren a polygamist cult in Mexico Susan Ray became the sixth wife of leader Verlan LeBarren at the age of 15. Over the next five years she gave birth to 5 children.
During this time she dealt with her sister-wives moving constantly and the murder of her brother in law by her other brother in law Ervil.
During this time Susan realized she did not want her children growing up in that culture and left getting involved with a man with ties to the Morman church and having her sixth child before meeting her current husband.
A very powerful book
Great Book!!! January 6, 2009 I recently have become interested in the topic of Polygamy, from a religious perspective, and this was the first book I read. I was just fascinated by these people and the way they live. I gave this book to a friend to read and she could not finish it. In the book, Susan marries a 40 year old man when she is 15. My friend could not get past that part. I have read several other books on the subject that are equally good. Irene Spencer was also married to this man and her book was very good as well.
ESCAPE IS BETTER BOOK January 6, 2009 Book is wordy. A difficult read. Makes you wonder how these people can get away with so many killings. Escape was an easier read.
Terrible!1 December 16, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I suppose I am in the minority. I thought this book was terrible! It was poorly written, the dialogue was awful and unrealistic, and the writer did nothing but whine. The idea of polygamy is intriguing, but the author of this book took an interesting concept and made it page after page of incessant whiney and complaining. I am attempting to finish the book, just to get to the end. I actually skip seveal pages at a time, and strangely enough, it has no bearing on me being able to understand the plot. This just shows how much unneccessary information the author included. If I could give the book negative 5 stars, I would. Read the book written by Susan's sister wife, Irene. It is much more cohesive, believeable, and interesting.

Susan told a remarkable story of her life as a child bride. It is truly amazing what these women and children have to go through and Susan takes you right into their world. Awesome book.
