5 out of 5 stars A Must Read   November 17, 2008
An excellent book. I recommend all new believers read this book. It should be a part of every youth ministry curriculum. Thanks John for writing this book. MIC

5 out of 5 stars Honor - in today's culture?   November 16, 2008
Clearly understanding the truth and reality of 'honor' is empowering and unfortunately missing in our culture of today. Insights in this book can change one's perspective in a way that will transform and renew relationships to everyone - from God to those we are responsible for.

Even if Bevere is sincere and the book has some good points, this is not a biblical sound book.

John Bevere has a very positional view of leadership, while Jesus and Paul always speaks about functional leadership. He uses many stories to back up his message, but not so much scripture.

Bevere is indirectly encouraging leaders to become priests for the people. This book feeds the old clergy-myth which is very strong in the traditional church and has its origin in catholic theology and tradition.

It is an interesting fact that the King James Version of the Bible has some mistranslations that feeds this kind of teaching because it was translated in an age that had much of this this kind of positional thinking. I recommend you to read Reimagining Church by Frank Viola (which has a functional view of leadership) and compare to this book.

5 out of 5 stars Honor's Reward   October 15, 2008
This is an excellent work which links honoring G-d
and others around us with rewards temporally.
The author links examples of honor with select
pieces from the Scriptures. For instance, he tells
the story of how Abraham was willing to sacrifice
his only son in order to obey an interpretation of
G-d's command. His faith was unshakable before G-d.

The work asks that we honor everyone around us
including family members, churches and people in
authority. There is an interesting story about a
pastor who assists a man in setting up a new life
in town. The presentation is worthy of your attention.
The book would be beneficial to a wide distribution of
interfaith readers.

4 out of 5 stars Bevere's "Honor's Rewards"   October 6, 2008
Bevere does a good job of tying together the need to respect and honor those who have been given authority over us. He challenges the reader to honor with one's heart, not just with lip service.
