Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

5 out of 5 stars Christian Perspective   January 6, 2009
Really enjoyed this writer's views of our relationship with God and forgiveness. It gets bogged down by discussions of the Trinity, but hand in there and read the whole thing because otherwise it is very thoughtful and encouraging in the faith.

2 out of 5 stars One view of Christianity   January 6, 2009

The shack is one way to look at Christianity which is reminiscent of the Quietists of 17th century France. Faith is equated with trust rather than an intellectual assent to revelation. It discounts church, sacraments, and Eucharist as the pivotal points of the Christian life. Why must Mack always be crying?

This author captures what organized religion does not. The story is compeling but the true richness of this message is that we can all be "friends" with God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit without denominational considerations. This world is depressing and discouraging. Many have had bad experiences with organized religion. You will not be able to put this book down and you will purchase many copies to give to friends. I loved this book! My Christian faith is renewed with the concepts presented.

This book challenges established beliefs of who God is and how He moves and works in the world. It may appeal to persons who have previously turned away from belief in an almighty God who loves and cares for us all. It certainly challenges an established believer to rethink his concepts of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

5 out of 5 stars The Shack - Read it!   January 6, 2009

I read this as a library book, then purchased 3 copies...one for me to keep so I could make margin notes and highlight, as well as one for my son and my daughter for Christmas. Excellent book...good plot, creative, thought-provoking. It will hold everyone's attention, yet it's more than that. It gets you thinking.
